ok, so i'm helping someone with their computer, it's a tiny sony vaio with a pcmcia cdrom.  the livecd will give me the boot menu, but then there are issues with the cdrom drive after that, so i thought maybe i can boot from usb, but there is no bios usb boot support.  is there a way to specify from the livecd menu that i want to boot from a usb drive?  thanks!

nevermind, i found an answer...

if you find yourself with a finicky cd drive, no floppy, and a usb key, try booting from the cd, but have the usb drive plugged in when you boot, and it (should) detect the drive as the boot device after starting the boot process from the cd drive.  ymmv of course.
