My hardware doesn't boot USB.  Can I do a floppy or CD boot into a USB install ?  This way I can run on any machine, install stuff, etc.  If so, any pointers on how, articles, howtos, etc. ?

Thanks !

Well I know this will boot a cd on machines that don't support it (I've used it for this) and the author says it will try to load usbaspi.sys so it's worth a try (but you are probably stuck to cd's)  Look for Bootable CD Loader v1.50Z: bcdl150z.zip at

You want to get the "bootusb-0.8.img" from the DSL repository and use "rawrite" to write it to a floppy if you are using Windows.

I've placed DSL on a 256MB Lexar JumpDrive with the "optional" folder and booted from the floppy.

There is a "boot-0.8.0.img" for booting a CD-R from floppy also.

I've copied the DSL files to the root of the hdd and just use the cd-r boot floppy to boot DSL from the hdd and also have an "optional" folder there with "extra goodies" available too. That is on a box running Win XP. I've also run the same set-up from a Win 98 PII 233mhz.
