What I wanna do is boot from a floppy, which loads DSL from a USB flash. Then I wanna do a DSL Harddrive install from there. How can I do that?

Hi marcus!

It's quite easy really. Just make your boot-floppy. Install dsl-embedded for example because the only thing you have to do is to unzip the dsl-embedded.zip file directly to your usb-drive. Then you can boot with the following commands at the boot prompt:  dsl fromhd=/dev/sda1 qemu frugal xsetup  and just follow the prompts. To install to the harddrive you just open the menu by right-clicking and highlight   Apps --> Tools --> and clicking on Install to Hard Drive and follow the prompts. Hope it works out for you!

Have fun,
meo

1) Download the dsl iso file from the download page.
2) Use nero to burn a CD-R image
Nero5: Choose File -> Burn Image
Nero 6: Choose Recorder -> Burn Image
3) Insert USB drive and cd and boot into DSL livecd.
4) Choose "Install to USB pendrive" from menu.
Choose No for USBZIp and Yes for pendrive USB HDD
5) Go to the DSL download page and download the usb floppy image file.
6) Insert a blank floppy disk.
7) Open an xterminal window and type:

sudo su
dd if=bootfloppy-usb.img of=/dev/fd0
exit
exit

8) Reboot with the USB boot floppy and the usb drive inserted.

9) Enjoy

I don't have a CDROM in the older laptop I'm installing DSL to.
How could I boot into DOS and copy the files from USB to the HDD and install it that way?

DOS does not support USB devices.

So your best bet is to use a newer computer to follow the instructions above and build the DSL pendrive and the dsl boot floppy.

Then you can move the drive and floppy over to your laptop and boot up DSL.

Then you can use the Install to Hard drive script that is included inside DSL.
