When using the CDROM to boot DSL, how do you get it to automatically load up user settings from the last session?

I have installed Samba and configured it to work on a Windows network, but obviously don't want to have to set this up manually each time I boot up DSL.

I have a USB pendrive plugged in - can that be used for this?
