After configuring Samba in order to use my network, PC connected printer from my DSL laptops, I found that my printer worked without even loading Samba. What I have:
in /opt/bootlocal.sh: /usr/sbin/lpd
in .filetools.lst: /var/spool/lbd/HP940c (the name of my printer, as set up using Apsfilter ) /opt/apsfilter /opt/printcap
EDIT: oh, and "export PRINTER=HP940c" in .bashrc
In the /opt.samba/smb.conf file loaded by default, there's a reference to /var/lib/samba/printers, but this doesn't exist so samba doesn't appear to be involved.
This is far too easy
