I have the same problem too. It seems that DSL cannot recognize the harddisk drive or the IDE chipset. I am using Compaq Deskpro EN desktops with i815 chipset. I have tried to use knoppix-lite and it has no problem to recognize my hdd.

My first thought is that maybe a BIOS firmware update from your manufacturer would help.

Other possibilities would be to try a few of these boot commands and see if they help. The boot syntax is "dsl <command>"

pci=bios
pci=biosirq
pci=nobios
noapic
pci=noacpi
noacpi pci=usepirqmask
acpi=off
ide0=0x1f0,0x3f6,14
