Ok here is my question.

I have loaded DSL into a DELL laptop using the grub frugal install with three partitions (swap, boot and everthing else).  Laptop comes up and runs as expected.  I configure the wireless card (D-LINK 11Mb) using wlanconfig. I set my SSID, channel, and WEP. I then use the netconf (forgot the exact name) to get my IP using DHCP and now I have an internet connection.  Works just fine.  Download some myDSL products, make desktop configuration changes and reboot the system.

System comes up just as I left it except it does not preserve my wireless settings from my wlanconfig configuration.  I need to repeat the proceedure of setting SSID, channel, WEP and requesting DHCP service and then it works fine.

So how can I get the wireless setting to remain configure after a boot?

Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm surprised that the settings aren't saved.  I think that the scripts create files that should be saved.  Is it a frugal install?  You can always edit /opt/bootlocal.sh and add the commands there.  But, my experience was when I did this and also ran the scripts that I was double configuring the card each bootup.

Thanks for the relpy.

Yes this was a frugal install.

I would like to try adding script to the bootlocal.sh file but am clueless to the commands.  Could you give me an idea what it is I need to try?  Thanks again.

If you use one of the several wireless tools from DSL control panel,
your wireless setting are saved in the form of a custom script containing your settings..
Look in the opt directory and depending on which tool worked for your wireless card you will see
myndis.sh, myprism2.sh, or myiwconfg.sh, etc. Then adding that to your .filetool.lst (for backup) and /opt/bootlocal.sh (for execution at boot time) you should be in business.

Thanks that works fine.  I did see a complaint about a frequency option (I assume at a lower level program) but for now I just drop the message in the bit bucket since the wireless connection is established.
