Neither.  Fluxbox or JWM managers.  No KDE and no GNOME

base ISO contains open source software.  Most extensions are also open source, but there are a couple closed source but still freely distributable applications available for installation.

Applications on the base ISO are usually not up to date because newer versions take up more disk space and the base DSL CD must be kept under 50MB in size.

Extensions are updated by the user community and are pretty up to date.  OO 2.0 is available

Very important.  Most help is learned from the user forums and the forum SEARCH function.
