hi,
I love dsl, but for I possible project (linux on some pcs of my school) I need it to be changed in some ways.
the pcs I want it to install on are very old (I hope they have 32mb ram) and will be used as pcs for browsing and stuff
the first thing i noticed when i tried dsl on qemu with only 32 megs of ram is, that firefox doesnt like it.
dillo is no alternative, so I need something in between, perhaps like mozilla.
my other problem is, that dsl contains to much software
I dont want the users to be able to play around to much and the system should fit on a 32mb cf card.
any ideas how I could realize this easily?

Mozilla is heavier than firefox, you could take a look at opera or if that is to heavy, glinks:

Here's a page that was linked elsewhere in the forum for using the ratpoison wm with firefox to make a locked down kiosk. You might get some ideas there.

ratpoison is in the windowmanager section of the mydsl repository.

If you decide to do that, you can free up a little room by getting rid of fluxbox and jwm. The remastering process is detailed in the pdfs found here but they seem to focus on how to add software, not remove it.

Good luck with your project. Let me know if you figure out how to get rid of stuff. I, for example, would love to lose jwm and nano and other stuff I never use.

Boot with the

lowram

command.

Create and format a Linux swap partition on the computer's hard drive.

Install Opera from either the MyDSL network section or the UCI section.
