Hello!

I have a task - build small or choose small Linux distro for quick installation on our hardware. We use very old hard(p1, p2) and DSL it is what we want:) But I want to know - is it possible to me change some installation procedure, add some new packages etc?

rimas search the forum for 'mydsl'
that's the answer to your second question.

as for the "look and feel" you can customize dsl like any other GNUlinux system, as far as I know.
I've translated the menu, (at each and every release that I use) I changed the wallpaper, created shortcut icons, used a different set of icons and so on..
I've got a persistant /opt directory from which I can load some programs I don't use very often, and I've got some .dsl programs to load at startup, because i need them everytime I use boot up (like abiword, or gimp, i.e.)
the only limit is your imagination.
have fun

:)

It is possible, but there are different ways to do it depending on your purposes. If you want a nearly bullet prooof installation, then I recommend the Frugal grub install. Make three partitions. The first should be a little less than 100MB, the second should be a little more than twice your RAM size, and the third can be large enough to hold your apps and documents. Then install DSL to the first partition as a Frugal grub install. Having grub will allow you to keep the same boot parameters every time. Format the second as a swap partition, and the third as a ext3 journaling partition.
