Progress is halting, but continuing...
The next stumbling block was the grub/lilo script, which insisted on the target partition being mounted at /mnt/hd. I manually mounted the partion and reran the script, and it seemed to work. Now, I get a grub menu prior to boot, and can choose DSL with various graphics options preferable to laptops. I chose 800x600 and went through the various initial questions about my keyboard, mouse, etc. until I was eventually kicked back to the command line with these messages:
Loading /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us.kmap.gz xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
root@tty1[root]#
It's progress.... but any advice would be welcome, and I hope this post ends up being useful for anyone else wrangling with the scripts.
Ciao, Dellengwyn
