Hey, this is prob a stupid question, but I have a computer with Ubuntu installed with a lot of files I don't want to lose.
However I don't want to use Ubuntu anymore and was wondering if its possible to install DSL to use as my primary os and keep all my files?

Are all your important files that you don't want to lose on the same partition as the Ubuntu installation?

If they're not on the same partition, when you run the script to install to the hard drive, you'd just have it write to the Ubuntu partition and don't have it touch the important files partition.  Then edit your fstab / mount as necessary to have your important files accessible in DSL.

But I doubt that's the case as its a pain to setup multiple partitions sometimes :)

Could you back them up easily (whether over the network onto another computer, or write to a CD)?

Actually you can use a frugal installation on that partition to co-exist with Ubuntu - just don't format it when the script prompts you to.
To be extra sure you could always copy the files over manually from the cd, and update the grub menu selection.

This, of course, depends on what you mean by "keeping all your files".
