ok i'm new and lost . first i downloaded dsl ,burnt to cd, got to boot screen ,then got stuck . best action so far was from dsl vga=normal . acted like something was happening uncompressing linux boot ok ..., then nothing . I' m trying to load onto a 1gig hd from my presario then put the hd in an old sager with a 150mhz 24mb notebook . I had success with debian but in it was too much for the old machine .

Does your screen go black? Then you should try dsl xsetup (or something like that) and configure your video card.

Type us the last 5 or so lines that you see before it freezes.

it will help us figure out where you are losing it.

im not a super hack by far but here's my two cents

you are booting from cd - correct

before dsl boots it gives you the option to press f2 and enter boot options - correct

try using a lower screen res: like 640x480

or poke through some of the other boot options. whenever i have been installing distros on old machines - and i run into black screens, etc, i can usually find a way past using one of the boot options

good luck!
