The puppy distro has pup001.zip to create mount space on an NTFS partition.

Does DSL have something like this?

The laptop is running XP - I want to boot off of CD and be able to persist data on the hard drive.

Or maybe it is OK to just read/write the NTFS partition from DSL?

Puppy has some ntfs write support.

DSL has only ntfs read support. No writing whatsoever.

But, you can backup/restore to a fat or vfat formatted usb pendrive.

That's where I am now: Trying to save the configuration to a 1gig Fuji USB 2.0 drive.

I can access the drive after booting but the laptop soon hangs even if I don't do anything.  Copying a large file seems to cause an immediate hang.

From looking around I think it is related to usb-ohci.o/ehci-hcd.o but I could be way off.

I want to be able to boot off CD and save the configuration to the Fuji USB 2.0 1gig drive. Currently the laptop is hanging when this drive is inserted.

If I figure anything out I'll post.

Laptop hang fixed by upgrading laptop firmware.
