Want to put dsl on my laptop permanently...
http://www.toshiba.ca/web....ct=1556

When I put the disc in it frezes at boot. Right after it lists processor speed. I've tried most boot options, including failsafe and  normal vga. Any ideas?

I'm fairly new to Linux but would like to make this my permaent OS for this PC. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thx

I had the same problem after  soft reboot on my Armada 1592DT, but the problem disappeared on  cold boot from a completely turned off system.

Boot the laptop with the CD in it.

At the DSL boot screen, where you would normally type DSL. Hit the F2 key.  This will list a lot of the boot options. A good one to try if you're locking up right after the processor message is NOPCMCIA.

So you would enter: DSL NOPCMCIA

Try that and see what happens. If that doesn't work try some of the other "NO" options. You can add them all one right after the other. Once you get it booting then you can start removing them till you find the one that you really need.

Good luck

The DSL Forum Search default is 'OR'
If you search for "cat dog" you will get all "cat" posts and all "dog" posts.
If you search for "cat AND dog" you will only find results that contain BOTH "cat" and "dog"
Add '*' for wildcards, " cat* and dog* "

The one I found to work the best for me was the "noapci" option. That, and figuring out what a "framebuffer" was.....:p

All very good tips. Unfortunatly none work. Seems to detect hardware fine, but then locks right when it lists processor. This is an AMD - are there any possible compatability issues? Could I have downloaded the wrong version? Are there any other kernels I could try?
