Hi, I succed to install on my 2 old laptop DSL 1.4
Laptop without CD-Rom, without netcard. CDRom drive on DB25 with a boot disk (DOS)
You must to have - Something to read the CD with boot disk - Something to partition you hard drive and format it - Boot disk for DSL 1.4 - DSL CD-Rom
1. Boot on floppy to partition your hard drive - 1 primary partition FAT with at least 50 to copy your CD-Rom, This partition have to be active NB : You can make a partion larger to use it as swap after install - 1 primary partition for the system (ext2) - 1 primary partition for home, MyDSL and personnal data (ext2) 2. Format your first partition in FAT 3. Boot from the boot disk to acced to your CD-Rom drive 4. Copy all the data (KNOPPIX and BOOT) to your drive 5. Boot from the DSL boot disk 6. When you have the boot prompt boot: dsl 2 lang=fr (in my case) 7. Make a link from /cdrom to /mnt/auto/cdrom 8. Launch dsl-hdinstall and follow the processus (say yes to install LILO) 9. Reboot 10. Welcome to DSL
In my case, this work fine. NB : You can transform the FAT partition in SWAP partition or keep it to install a newer version of DSL next time
Enjoy, Pouy.
