I am trying to install DSL to the hard drive on an old thinkpad 560x
I am running DSL from a usb thumb/pendrive booting with a boot floppy as I have no CDrom . Here is the rundown I set up partitions hda1 as swap hda2 linux ext2 , ran install script from dsl (running and at boot) everthing seems fine . I get to install boot loader I have tried both choices grub and lilo then it "says" it installs ok asks to reboot . It says to wait for cdrom to eject (I have none) so i just take out the usb drive and the boot floppy thinking it will boot on its own but it comes up with the put the floppy in picture . and nothing if i hit enter or any other keys foir that matter it just shows some numbers (Ram?) I also tried leaving the boot floppy in but it has kernel panic as the usb drive is not there . Any help would be super . Walk me through I am missing something . I just want to turn the computer on and boot linux with no floppy just the drive.

When the boot prompt appears on bootup, type:

dsl frugal

and the whole cdrom/eject thing will go away.
Also, you will be allowed to easily write to /cdrom , which is the location for your boot partition on your USB drive.
