I'd like to store backup files from my wife's PC on my frugal install PC.  If I put these in /home/dsl, then I have to wait for all of this to be backed up and restored each boot.  If I re-partition the drive and add another partition and only mount it when I do a backup, will this work?  Seems like it should.

I went ahead and did it, creating partition /dev/hda4 and using this for backups.  This seems to work great, as I don't get the shutdown & boot delay if I put these into /home/dsl.
