I have XP on hda and Ubuntu on hdc.

What I want to do is resize the Ubuntu partition and then create two new partitions for DSL.  That's no problem.  I'm just unsure what files to copy from the DSL cd to what partition.

I know KNOPPIX need to go in one, but where does the boot folder go?

I know how to edit grub within Ubuntu to get DSL into grub, I'm just not too sure what the entry should look like.

I read through the forum, but nothing made it clear in my mind.

Thanks for any help :)

put the boot folder in the same partition as the KNOPPIX folder and you'll be fine.  Edit grub to add the DSL kernel and you're good to go.  That's how i installed DSL, and have had no troubles with it.  Upgrading is even easier...just copy the KNOPPIX file over the old one (copy your backup file just in case).

An example of the grub entry (this is 3 lines, just in case it wraps in your browser):
title Damn Small Linux
kernel (hd0,3)/boot/isolinux/linux24 root=/dev/hda4 dsl frugal host=bungle norestore mydsl=hda4/myDSL/custom vga=794 dma
initrd (hd0,3)/boot/isolinux/minirt24.gz

You'll probably want to look at your current ubuntu grub menu.lst to verify the syntax....apparently some versions of grub are a little different than others.

Thanks, Mikshaw :)

Just what I needed.  The syntax for the grub entry makes sense now (been a while and had forgotten).

Finding it hard, though, to find a good utility to resize my reiserfs partition.  Though, I have a knoppix DVD which had qtparted on it, I guess...Gonna boot that up in a while and try.
I used to use Partition Magic 8 in windows for that (never with any problems), but I guess it doesn't support reiserfs.

Thanks again!

Got it all working great :)

Decided to put SuSE 9.3 on and get rid of Ubuntu (Just playin'), so I repartitioned my drives during that.

Editied SuSE's Grub menu, and now DSL boots great.   A little "toram" and "dma" and a persistent home and opt, and she's quick as heck :)

Thanks for the help ;)
