Hi,

I make use of the "loadlin" method of booting DSL, on my WinXP machine, using a DOS formatted USB stick.

I have created several linux partitions and can boot DSL, Feather and Kanotix from the HD.

In all these cases the "loadlin" command line requires a compressed kernel image.

In other debian (?) distros, this image is found in the /boot directory and is called "vmlinuz-xxx".

In DSL 2.0RC1 (and earlier DSLs) there was a compressed kernel image file called in "linux24" in the /boot directory.

This file is missing in the DSL 2.0 release.

Is there a reason for not including it?

Regards,

Geoff.

I installed on hd dsl 2.0 and I have a linux24 in my boot directory. I was unable to install from dsl toram, I had to do a regular live start and install from that venue. Also I use lilo , I have had trouble with grub. I do not know about loadlin. I just wanted to say I have a linux24 in my boot folder, could be part of the problem,   good luck,  Marty

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Must be different versions of DSL 2.0.

No linux24 in my /boot directory.

I booted from the liveCD and a 'find' showed that the only occurence of linux24 was in the /cdrom/boot/isolinux/ directory.

Another little puzzle.

Geoff.
