Sorry, I did search, so far can't make it work.

Hi,

I'm using DSL 1.5 frugal.
So far I can't play .wav or ,mo3 files, or music CDs.

Help, please.

The speakers do make a sort of click upon loading DSL, when the Sondblaster 16 is detected.

Here's part of menu.lst

Hey SheldonIsaac,
Didn't know if you found your answer yet, but thought I'd suggest you try the alsadebs.dsl extension
You might find more info on your card here:
ALSA page on the Creative soundcards

You need to add "alsa" to your boot line like:

kernel /boot/linux24 fromhd=/dev/hda3 root=/dev/hda3 quiet alsa base vga=normal noacpi noapm noscsi frugal dma home=hdb10 opt=hdb10 write

After booting with the "alsa" option, go into the MyDSL panel follow the instructions as given in the MyDSL info file for alsadebs.dsl (which is in the system category) from the MyDSL panel.
Please note: (for others searching that come across the thread)
alsadebs is for ALSA supported soundcards using DSL version 0.8-1.5 ONLY
If you later upgrade to (or if you are running) DSL 2+ you'll need the alsa.dsl package, which is in the multimedia category.

It's probably a good idea to test the package on your system using a liveCD first if you are running a HD installation.

So far I've not ventured into extensions. Am still using DSL 1.5. Mislaid the boot CD with 2.0 on it, accidentally wiped out the source files directory on my hard drive, have only dial-up, etec .sad story

And don't know how to use quoting feature, if any, of this forum

* I looked at the BIOS bootup options under PCI/PNP, and changed one of the slots from what IRQ 5? to AUTO.

XMMS now plays .wav files fine.
