Please Help
I'm a bit new to DSL - only been playing with it a couple of months and mostly managed to make myself more confused than anything else.
I have (or had until it died) a NAS with Tonkymedia on it, so installed Soundbridges and enjoyed streaming music all the time. While waiting to get the NAS fixed I want to use an old laptop with DSL as the server - and found that FireFly is available in the MyDSL download thing, and does exactly what I'm looking for.
Only problem is - I dont really understand what its doing. I hit the "install selected" and then try to follow the instructions, but quickly get lost:-
These are the instructions:- 1. Copy /tmp/mt-daapd.conf to /etc, edit to suit your setup & add to backup 2. Create folder /var/cache/mt-daapd, make owner dsl.staff $ touch /var/cache/mt-daapd/placeholder & add to backup 3. $ mt-daapd -y to start server (or -fy to run in foreground to troubleshoot)
so 1 I can do ok, although I need to delve in to the detail of the config. not sure what it means by 'add to backup'
2 - how do I make the owner dsl.staff? I don't have a user of this name, so is this something else? And what does 'touch' do?
3 - when I enter the command line it just tells me that there is no such application installed - so what gives?
I've seen from the forum that several people have got this to work (I assume they know what they are doing far more than I) but there are not really any how-to's around.
If anyone can help I'd be mighty grateful.
Thanks,
Jonathan
