Why oh why didn't I just get a card that works out of the box?

I tried the Realtek driver off the CD. I downloaded the Win XP driver at:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?Keyword=rtl8180

I'm having problems compiling the driver from the same location. Not sure which linux driver to select. I'd try them all but when I issue the command 'make config' I get a command not found error.

Trying to compile the driver because after I do
ndiswrapper -i theDriver
modprobe ndiswrapper

I check dmesg to see an error ndiswrapper: windows driver couldn't initialize the device

Misery enjoys company... looking for some help if anyone can tell me what I need to do to compile the driver I'd like to try that.

Toshiba 490CDT, 32 mb ram, pII, hard drive install, working great as a picture frame. I have a usb ethernet connection but I want wifi...
