I finally go X working on my old Compaq 486 laptop, still can't get my wifi working tho. I'm using a Senao 16bit card, it has the prism2 chip, this works fine in other machines with both the hostap_cs and the prism2_cs drivers. Running cardctl ident show the correct info for the card. It was loading the orinoco_cs driver when I inserted the card, so I edited the /etc/pcmcia/config to give it the prism2_cs driver, so now it loads and unloads prism2_cs when I put in and take out the card. I also edited /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf to have the specific indent info for this card. Still, when I try to run wlcardconfig, it says "no wireless card detected". Is there anything else I need to look at? One thing I noticed too is that there is no /etc/init.d/pcmcia file, which I thought should be there. I had to install dsl by putting the hd into another box which had no pcmcia because the laptop has no cdrom -- is that a problem? Pcmcia seems to be working okay, it correctly ids the cards, in fact I can put in a wired ethernet card and it loads up that driver and netcardconfig works fine with that card.
