from what i can figure out, form asking a lot of questions and googling a lot, USB lan and wlan are not yet (fully) supported by linux. more specifically, we have problems with broadcasting DHCP from a USB bus... but some support is implemented in the 2.6.7 kernel, i believe. just don't expect DSL to use THAT any time soon
