For some odd reason that neither I, nor my local computer gurus could figure out, my DSL computer was doing something to the network/internet router for my house.
For awhile everything was working fine, DSL was connecting to the internet along side all the other computers in the house without problems, but then one morning the internet just stopped working. None of the computers(all others on the router were running XP professional.) could connect to the internet, or at times, could only connect at a slower than dialup speed on our highspeed connection. When calling techsupport I was told the router was bad, so I got a brand new router, but then the next morning it all happened again. So I called over a family friend qua computer wizard to take a look. He said again, the problem was the router, and we swapped out routers. Again, same thing, next morning no internet.
After one more dance in the circule of switching out to a new router, our computer wizard called in some backup from another computer guy he knew, and after awhile it was blamed on my DSL computer, though they couldn't explain why. Basically, they didn't know what else to do, so they thought I should unplug it from the router and see if that helps any.
Ever since I unplugged it from the router the connection has been working fine on all other computers. Their best guess was that DSL was messing with the router settings in a way they couldn't understand.
Odd eh? This is way beyond my abilities to figure out, so i'm just gonna install a different OS that hasn't given me trouble in the past. I gotta say, though, with exception to my router problems and old mouse problems, DSL has been my favorite dist of linux to date.
Keep up the good work guys, and maybe i'll come back sometime in the future when the OS has a few more updates.
