Ok, a step by step guide.. for this you need to right-click anywhere on the desktop that hasn't got a window or an icon. You should get a little menu with the "Damn Small" on top. As you would in windows, go to System> Net Setup> dialup PPP> config.
You should be now looking at a cream colored box entitled GNU/Linux configuration utility.
Use the arrow keys to navigate up and down the list. Select 'create an account' (first in list) then press [tab] so the ok is in red, hit [return] to confirm.
Next we input our provider. backspace to get rid of the provider. I found it easier to put in something very short. In mycase I only have the one ISP, blueyonder, so I put "blue" (without "") Note this is case sensitive. Keep it simple for now.
Now it asks for nameserver DNS. Its probably very likely its a dynamic IP, in other words, your IP is assigned to youyou, it changes everytime you connect etc. Little more involved, arrow keys to choose, use [space] to select, use tab to <ok> then [return]. If you know for a fact that you havea static IP, then you need to select that and enter first your primary IP number, and a secondary one if you have one. Otherwise leave blank and <ok>

Next is Authentication method for provider. I stuck with the first there, PAP. As it says in the box, if your ISP supports win95/NT then use PAP. Otherwise, try CHAT.
Next it wants your username, then your password, then your modem speed. Best stick with the default 115200.
Touch-tone phone? yup! So just ok the default, and now.. number to dial. Just type the number in as you normally would type the full number of say dialing a friend in another state. Here in the UK it tends to be 0845 if you are with BT.
You don't need to input the international code before it.
Next up is Choose Modem Config. This is the last one. Phew.. nearly there! Now, I asked you whether you had an external modem or an internal one. Its kind of relevant here (1). :nudge:
If you know its on the serial port, and unless you have the same board as me, you only have one of these. :P This will automatically be ttyS0 for com1, though the wizard says ttyS1 is the most common.
Setting the serial port is probably the setting we will keep returning to to 'get right.' I used the wizard first time round and it came up with ttyS1. No connection lol. There are only four options.. just backspace once and input 0 for now so it reads /dev/ttyS0 and ok it.
And now we scroll down to Finish, [tab] and ok that.
Thats the PPP config done. Now we go back to that right-click on desktop menu, System> Net Setup> dialup PPP> dial. enter the name we called the provider, in my case blue, and ok it. Pause, you should hear your modem dial. If not we go back to the serial port config and try ttyS1,2,3,4 til it dials.
Its worth scrolling thru and checking everything. Just be a bit wild with it. Theres nothing to be afraid of with this config.
I have been able to save my config, but I've not been able to restore it. Details of how to backup these settings are in the intro that pops up in dillo when you start DSL.
I have had to config my dialup everytime I run DSL.  I don't mind it so much.  I have got used to the tab/arrow keys/spacebar routine and you need that in linux.

1) If its an internal modem, I do not honestly know. Someone here might be running DSL with a pci (or even an isa) modem and I do not no for certain how this is viewed.
