I had same problem here, running DSL from my pendrive. I found the problem, but my solution is just until next boot (I would like to know how to make it definitive!).
There are a problem with monkey.conf. Despite the program is installed in /opt/monkey-0.9.1/htdocs, conf file is set to search for /opt/monkey-0.8.2/htdocs. As it doesn´t exist, the daemon doesn´t get up. If I modify monkey.conf (/opt/monkey-0.9.1/conf) and change for /opt/monkey-0.9.1/htdocs or for the link /opt/monkey/htdocs, then it starts.
Now, I would like some help to make it permanent, including to set my htdocs diretory to home/dsl/www and not /opt/monkey-0.9.1/htdocs...
