I'm now trying second wireless pcmcia network card which is D-Link AirPlus G+ DWL-G650+ H/W: B1 F/W: 2.04. I'm using DSL 2.4. I downloaded drivers ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/wireles....02.zip.

I type following in aterm:
sudo su
ndiswrapper -i /path/to/drivers/WinXP/GPLUS.inf
modprobe ndiswrapper

After that the link led in the card lights up. Iwconfig shows wlan0 and some information. Signal is 0. Is it normal? My wireless router is right next to my laptop.

But what now? How can I get my card working?

I got it working... I guess...

I compiled acx100 drivers for DSL 2.1b kernel 2.4.31 and I used firmware-file that came with card's windows drivers.

Card connects either using the graphical iwconfig-tool or netcardconfig & wlanconfig in DSLpanel.

Things that are confusing me:
1) If I try iwconfig in terminal:
dsl@box:~$ iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

Segmentation fault

dmesg shows:
Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 538a8a51
printing eip:

2) Sometimes when I'm using WEP I hear some noises I think they're coming from the speakers.

But the most important thing is I can now connect to the internet via wireless card. I'm writing this message wirelessly (about 10 to 15 meters from my AP, few walls in between).

I use the same card (DWL-650+) and want to switch to DSL. I have been using the card with Ubuntu and Mepis without any special configuration other than the basic ESSID/WEP. Those distro (2.6.15-23-386) already have the drivers as part of the system install, so my question is since driver support for acx100 is not part of DSL can I somehow copy the acx firmware to a CD and load it into DSL or is it better to compile the drivers? Coming from Ubuntu/Mepis I am a complete newbie to DSL/knoppix and it's structure. I would appreciate help in getting DSL to work with my DWL-650+ wireless card. Thanks!

You need compiled acx100 driver module _and_ firmware. You can use the firmware that comes with the card (*.bin) or download it from internet. I used WinXP drivers firmware but I think they're all the same.

So...

Get the driver sources for 2.4 kernel (2.6 for DSL-N), kernel sources, and build the driver.

Copy driver module (acx_pci.o or acx_usb.o) into /lib/modules/*kernel-version*/ and firmware file to /usr/share/acx. In my case I had to rename the firmware file to TIACX111.BIN.

Use modprobe or insmod to load the driver. The link/power light should light up. Then configure the card.

If you need more help with compiling the driver for 2.4, ask...
it can be tricky...

PS. Sorry for the slow reply.

Ok, I have a DWL-650 card and it's not working. I had to use the 'nopcmcia' option to get DSL installed, but now I don't know how to get my computer to recognize the pcmcia slots. I have no idea how to fix it, and I can't understand anything you guys are saying with ndiswrapper and acx100 and firmware... I need help and I'm a total noob.:(
