And.. on my ISP's website they only show how to set the internet up using Redhat linux 5.2+

and i have DSL.. Live CD


and im not exactly sure what COM port my modem is on... it SAYS COM3 in the modems properties (in windows) but when i try to connect (in linux) it has input/output errors

There's what it says when you connect to those ports..

s0 is the only one that says anything besides input/output error... but it says com1 has nothing installed and com3 has the modem.... But.. it says input output error

so does anyone know...  do i have a winmodem or what?

Modems can be frustrating in Linux just because a lot of modems are winmodems.  It would be best to search the forum with the word "winmodem".

and it will tell you stuff.. i havent tried it yet i should do it right now though...

What did you try to get to a) and b) ?

You could also try lspci -v to find out your model/chipset.

I  have xp on a tower, but seem to use dsl more than xp..dsl did not like the win modem, so I got a new external serial...it is a us robotics v.92 56k..I just pluged it in and turned it on. works great.. if that helps at all.
