the cd should be under /mnt/cdrom there is a little graphic at the bottom of the gui with fd0.. click that to CDROM (if detected) and mount it if its unmounted.
As far as your USB Networking .. what type of adapter is it.. ?
LinuxQuestions.org and here has numerous tutorials and links for all kinds of USB networking devices. You will have to manually install and configure the driver/device
