Glad you managed to get a question that could be replied to posted.

Something that almost always is pertinent is which version of DSL you are using. It can be useful to know a little something about the computer you're using, like, speed of processor and amount of RAM. In the current case, it would be nice for you to mention what modem and if it is an internal or external one. It never hurts to know that the hardware is known to be working, even if you have to say that 'it works in Windows' or with some other GNU/Linux distribution.

However, looking in the wiki, I see that there is advice for dialup. In the DSL Control Panel (do you have a desktop icon for that), there is a button for Dialup and it opens the configuration window with a button for config, dial and hangup. The config button will open a shell for ppp configuration. It takes you through a series of questions and configures your dialup. Among other things, this is the place where you can enter the telephone number, username and password needed to make a connection to your Internet Service Provider. Pay careful attention to the menu choices, especially the "Finished Write files and return to main menu" menu item. Sometimes people forget to do that last step and ppp does not get configured.

While you're at the Control Panel have a look at the other buttons, see if there is one that has something about 'stats' of your system.

In the forum rules section of the wiki there is an article about "How to Ask Intelligent Questions", the examples there can help you to understand what kind of information to give with your questions and why.

I note that an archive search, gives a long list of threads that mention dialup. Lots to read but you may pickup good information along the way. Maybe even some information on other topics about which you haven't yet had a question. Often someone else has had the same problem you have a question about and worked out a solution.

But have a go at the configuration (sometimes it goes smoothly if you have a good hardware modem), come back with specific questions and be sure to include any error messages you receive when you try something.

Glad you managed to get it configured OK.

Yes, type the name you gave to your dialup account (when you did the configuration) in the text field, then push the dial button. That should open a window that will show you the progress as the modem tries to connect and any errors that might happen.

The default name is provider, so if you didn't change it, use that.
