I don't have high-speed internet (yet, maybe soon), is it possible to send my dialup connection throughout my house and pick it up on my laptop?  I have not purchased any wireless equipment yet.

Yes. Work a little bit with internet sharing via wired networks first. The idea is that the computer with the internet connection is going to probably need to run as point-point and the laptop the same. But really it is much worth your time to get high speed internet. With that you can simply use a router. No need for IP work or anything. I had a lot of luck with dailup sharing under windows xp. It worked quite well. Just use there wizard. But it can be done with DSL. Search for "internet sharing" or "gateway" in the forums.
