I have a old Orinoco Silver 11 Mbps (without wep) card and Tekcomm access point. I manage to create a connection between those two. If I ping the access point ip I get sub 2 ms values Also, if I ping my firewall (IP cop) I get standard LAN values. But: dns is veeeery slooow. If I try to ping a dns name, it won't go through. But if I ping a WAN ip I get same ping than from my "wired" computers. If I enter a http-address to the browser it takes ages to reach the page. Oddly it seems, that the actual page loads very fast, after the browser reaches the page. Strange enopugh, if I connect the same computer with a standard 3Com pcmcia card, everyithing works fine. I'm no guru with wlan, so please could someone shed some light o this?
