Hi guys.
My setup.

Lappy 166mhz 40 megs ram
PCMCIA ETHO Nic card and USB wifi ETH1
network is up and working on devices.

If I disable ETH1 ( wifi ) restart the notebook, it obtains an ip address.  Once i am in the desktop, i click on the samba icon, and I am able to browse the available groups/folder.
If I disable the ETH0 nic card, and enable the Wifi ETH1, restart the pc, I am able to ping the window$ box, ping the gateway, browse the net, however I am not able to browse or see any available group!

if i go into the console and issue:

mount -t smbfs -o usename=test,password=test //192.168.0.100/download /linuxbox

it connects to the xp box, and thats it. doesnt show any available shares etc.

however, by disabling the wireless, rebooting the laptop, and enabling the other nic card ETH0, i am able to browse the group no problem.

has anyone see this thing before?i hope i am not the only one.

any help, tips, anything is highly appreciated.. i lost a bit of hair last night trying to figure it out. I even started clean from Scrath , re installed dsl etc.. and the same issue persists.

please advise

This is a long shot, but I once had a very similar problem and it turned out the the wireless NIC was actually connecting to my neighbor's (apparently wide open) AP instead of my own. So while I had good network connectivity and could see the internet, I couldn't see my local machines because I wasn't actually on my local network :)

So, does this mean you got your DWL-G122 wireless adaptor working?
If so, did you use ndiswrapper, or linux-wlan-ng?  It might help others to know this.

I, too, once had the problem you describe.  At the core of this, your router is dealing with 2 network nodes, ethernet and wireless, which it attempts to bridge.

Possible solution 1.
If you are setting up your wireless interface by DHCP, you need to do a full DHCP negotiation with "pump -i eth1", not just "ifup eth1" or "ifconfig eth1 up".
Or if you are setting up a static wireless interface, you may need to specify other parameters to ifconfig as well as the IP address, namely broadcast address and netmask.

This will help your router bridge the network nodes.

Possible solution 2.
Your router may need some firm encouragement to bridge the networks.  Once all clients are connected, power cycle the router to force it through a startup procedure.

lost another mat of hair, i wil type up my issue again and try to explain it better.. sorry about my english, it aint pretty :(
Lappy 166mhz 40 megs ram
PCMCIA ETHO Nic card and USB wifi ETH1
network is up and working on devices.

If I disable ETH1 ( wifi ) restart the notebook, it obtains an ip
address.  Once i am in the desktop, i click on the samba icon, and I
am able to browse the available groups/folder.
If I disable the ETH0 nic card, and enable the Wifi ETH1, restart the
pc, I am able to ping the window$ box, ping the gateway, browse the
net, however I am not able to browse or see any available group!

if i go into the console and issue:

smbclient -L //Test

it says

added interface ip=192.168.0.3 ( my laptop ip ) bcast=192.168.0.255
nmask=255.255.255.0

and thats it.. after a whil  it says this error:

session request to test failed ( Call timed out: sever did not respond
after 2000 milliseconds )

while the laptop is attempting to connect to the xp box, i do a
netstat on the XP machine and see the following

tcp cid-desktop: net bios-ssn 192.168.0.3:1028

so its contacting the xp machine, but thats it.

however, by disabling the wireless, rebooting the laptop, and enabling
the other nic card ETH0, i am able to browse the group no problem.

has anyone see this thing before?i hope i am not the only one.

any help, tips, anything is highly appreciated.. i lost a bit of hair
last night trying to figure it out. I even started clean from Scrath ,
re installed dsl etc.. and the same issue persists.

so to summarize.

Wired eth0 works , i can browse the shares no problem!. if i have the
two cards on the laptop at the same time, i can still browse, as long
as the physical wired card is enable and connected to the linksys
router, all is good.

if i disable the Eth0 and just run on wireless, i can browse the net,
ping anything i want , including the xp box, ping hateway everything..
except i cannot browse the sahres.. it times out!

theres no firewall enabled on the laptop , and i even turned off the
firewall on the router. didnt work

has anyone seen this before?  any, any inputs is appreciated.

btw, i am using WAP encryption, and I ahve verified i am connected to
my own network and not the neighbours LOL!.

thanks
