Alright, so my model 6700g AT&T Notebook Wireless Adapter card wont work with DSL, but it worked both when I had Linspire and Ubuntu installed prior to this(uninstalled em cus they went so painfully slow...)

So I got to thinking...if the card worked with those OS, that means that they had the drivers for it somewhere in there while they were installed right? So if I reinstalled one of those two, went into the files (not sure where to go but there must be somwhere in there...) and saved the driver files and such to a disk, couldnt I, in theory, simply install those drivers off the disk into the files of the DSL OS?

Remember...I'm a noob straight out of windows so if i'm thinking too windows oriented here feel free to let me down...but if it would work could you please provide me with detailed instructions on how to go about this?

Too bad it's far from that simple... the kernel version would need to be exactly (or VERY close) the same to move drivers from one system to another... and Ubuntu uses 2.6 kernel, which is a whole different beast than DSL, which uses the older 2.4 kernel for improved older hardware support.  Not sure about linspire.

It could be that your card simply isn't supported by the 2.4 kernel, or the drivers simply aren't included with DSL.  No easy answers... I'd google for support of your card in Linux and find out if a driver exists for 2.4... but if it's not included with DSL you'd have to get the DSL kernel source, compile module, etc... not going to be easy for someone new to Linux.

Linspire currently uses the 2.6.10-debian kernel.

What module (driver) does your card use in Ubuntu?

type "dmesg|more" at an xterm and look for where it talks about cardmgr to find the module name.

hmm...well what's even wierder now is that i got it's started to recognize the card and everything, and i put in my home network name for the wlcardconfiguration thing and the card itself seemed to be able to hook up to the net, cause the lights on it started flashing and such.

Too bad the god damn computer doesn't realize the card is picking it up, or maye im just not entering the right stuff...aside from the ESSID thing i have no idea what to put in or where to look for all that other stuff...
