after trying the XF86config and mydsl packages, i came across these site's which helped:

basically all i ahd to do was change in my bios settings the amount of shared memory allocated to the video chip on boot-up... from 1Mb to 8Mb 
no dont need any mydsl packages, the standard dsl iso works great now i get all the res choices in Xvesa panel !
