Well, after wrestling with my x-windows it is magicially working in FB mode 800x600.  It loads AMAZINGLY fast and im very stoked about it working.  When it loads , the mouse will MOVE, smoothly, but it will not click.  The graphics look GREAT!!! Maybe I need to install GPM?? I dont know.
while DSL is booting, it finds a generic PS/2 mouse at /dev/psaux , during autoconfiguration. I have tried all the different settings in xsetup.sh ( I was convinced I would end up screwing up my disply, but I didnt). IMPS2(mouse moves fine, wont click) PS2 2 button(moves fine, wont click), PS2 3 button(moves fine, wont click) , the COMS (wont move or click)..
anyone have any ideas??????
thanks in advance,
kyle

If your mouse pointer is moving, it means that you have selected the right devicename.

The xfbdev driver automatically determines the mouse protocol for your device.  If you cannot click, it means that your mouse is unsupported by this xserver.

You can resolve this in a number of different ways:

1) Buy a different mouse.
2) Install GPM and configure it to work with your mouse.  Then set up GPM to work in "repeater mode" and edit the /home/dsl/.xserverrc to point at your GPM repeater devicename instead of /dev/psaux
3) Install XFree86.dsl on your computer and configure it for your video card and mouse device.

well I tried GPM. It didnt seem to pick the mouse up in X, but worked in CLI. Tried all the different mouse types. after messing around with that, I ended up ruining my installation, and reinstalled DSL fresh.

I installed XFree86.dsl , and configured it.
I set up the .xserverrc , /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 ,etc,  tried a buncha different mouse setting, still no click. Acts the same as it did without XFree.  bah!

Im getting tired of wasting time on this...  is there anyway I can bind a keyboard key to act as a mouse click? That would be great.
Thanks for your help,
Kyle

I don't know how to bind a keyboard key to a mouse-click.

However, I would not give up on GPM.

If you can get GPM working from the CLI then it should be possible to get it working for XWindows.

Maybe the permissions for your repeater did not allow access.   Does it allow all users to access the device?

Also, there may be a setting to disable GPM under certain cirumstances like starting up an X server.  You would need to make sure that GPM stays active in this situation.

Finally, if you can't get GPM to work with the builtin Xserver, maybe you can get it to work with XFree86.

Good luck.

Hey, I got a new mouse and the problem is OVER! YA!
Got it plugged into the back of the laptop.
DSL is DAMN amazing, it loads with the quickness with a p1 w/ 13 MB ram.  I would put it on my athlon 64 if I could play BF2 with it! YA!

thanks for the help cbagger, appreciate it.
thanks for the sweet linux distro, DSL.
