Just for fun, I decided to do a frugal install of the current version of DSL on my Libretto 70CT.  It's already running Slackware 10.2 quite nicely, but I thought DSL might be faster.

Anyway, I figured out how to dual-boot using lilo, but now I can't get the video to look right.  The colors come out all weird, no matter what video settings I use.  The video chip is a C&T 65550 that displays 640x480x256, and it works fine under Slackware when I set it up that way.  (Someone has posted a sample XF86Config file for the 70CT at http://www.ottaky.com/lib70ct.php)

So, does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you looked at the wiki:

http://damnsmalllinux.org/wiki/index.php/Vga%3Dxxx

I added the bit relevant to the L100. The L100 has a NeoMagic chipset, but if the rest of the bios is similar, i.e. vesa compliant to the same degree as the L100 then the method described might work for your L70.

Good luck, it's a great OS to get running on the Libretto. Nice & quick!

Well, it was a good idea, but it didn't pan out.  Looks like I had already set up lilo.conf with vga=769 (the generic 640x480x256 framebuffer), and using anything else in the list just kills the boot process, or else it kills X when I boot into DSL.  :-(

(I actually had a scary moment or two when that happened.  I thought I had just brickified my Libretto 'cause I don't know where the unit's PCMCIA floppy drive is, so booting from the HD is my only option . . . but then I remembered I could specify vga=769 on the boot line.  Then all was well.  Whew!)

It's funny; I'd swear I successfully used an earlier version of DSL on this box.  The video came up funny, but when I ran the XVesa program it would fix everything up just fine.  Maybe I'm mis-remembering.

At any rate, thanks for your help.  Maybe I'll play around with it some more.
