Well, it was a good idea, but it didn't pan out. Looks like I had already set up lilo.conf with vga=769 (the generic 640x480x256 framebuffer), and using anything else in the list just kills the boot process, or else it kills X when I boot into DSL. :-(
(I actually had a scary moment or two when that happened. I thought I had just brickified my Libretto 'cause I don't know where the unit's PCMCIA floppy drive is, so booting from the HD is my only option . . . but then I remembered I could specify vga=769 on the boot line. Then all was well. Whew!)
It's funny; I'd swear I successfully used an earlier version of DSL on this box. The video came up funny, but when I ran the XVesa program it would fix everything up just fine. Maybe I'm mis-remembering.
At any rate, thanks for your help. Maybe I'll play around with it some more.
