Hi!

I have a old laptop PCD-4L/50, 4 MB RAM, 256 MB HD, Intel 486 DX2SL.

It works with Windows 95. Now I want to install DSL.
But I search something over the conditions for system :(. Are 4 MB RAM enought ???  ?
Can I install DSL over my Desktop PC on the hard disk and than put it in the Laptop?
That I have doew with Windows 95

Thanks for your help!

Thanx!

I didn´t found anything about the systempreformance in the I-Net.

But if, I have 16 MB RAM I can install it on the HD (256 MB) ?

Have a nice day!

16 MB should be (just) ok - it will be slow though. Use 24-32 MB for a swap partition and the rest of the disk for the HD install. If you cannot get 16 MB, take a look at http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/baslinux/

I just have to tell you about this UNIX OS in this post (even it goes totally off-topic, sorry about that):

It's called Inferno. It's very lightweight, but most propably harder to master than DSL. It does have GUI so you don't always need to rely on CLI.
I haven't tried it just yet, but I plan to.

Here's some nice features from its homepage:
Quote
Features
Compact
Runs on devices with as little as 1MB of RAM

Complete Development Environment
Including Acme IDE, compilers, shell, UNIX like commands & graphical debugger

Limbo
An advanced modular, safe, concurrent programming language with C like syntax.

Library Modules
Limbo modules for networking, graphics (including GUI toolkit), security and more...

JIT Compilation
Improves application performance by compiling object code on the fly (Just In Time).

Namespaces
Powerful resource representation using a single communication protocol. Import and export resources completely transparently.

Full Source Code
Full source code for the whole system and applications, subject to licence terms

And more...

# Online manual pages
# Full unicode support
# Dynamic modules
# Advanced GUI toolkit
# Javascript 1.1 web browser
# C cross compiler suite
# Remote Debugging
# Games, Demos & Utilities

You will need a CD-drive to install this. ;( I don't know if there's any other way to install it. Using an external CD-drive prehaps..?
See Inferno's web page for more.
