Hi everyone, I'm looking for any suggestions... I recently used the great info posted at -http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/install_from_floppy.html - to install DSL on my thinkpad 560z. The only thing I did differently was use an IDE 2.5 - 3.5 adapter to transfer knoppix instead of 'raring' files for floppy disks.

Everything went farily smoothly until I realized that I will probably need to install video drivers b/c when I get into the GUI, the screen is too 'green' and dim to read. I can just barely make out the icons and my pointer.

Can anyone assist with:
1) the drivers I should be installing
2) how to install them (seeing as how I cannot see to work properly in DSL)

Further info:
- I tried both both the syslinux and isolinux iso d/l's
- Currently, I am booting from the DSL boot disk (running from /dev/hda1 compressed) - I can't see enough within the GUI to create a swap or do the HDD install.

Thank for all the help on this site and for any in advance...I'm terribly excited to start using DSL and to see how many pieces I can shatter my XP cd into...

I've got a 560X

Try booting with "dsl vga=789"

That will give you 1+million colors at 800x600

I have a 560z running DSL. It is possible to get everything running properly. What you really need is Xfree86.dsl, because it has accelerated video support for the 560z's neomagic chipset. Get that, and change the .xserverrc file to use  XFree86. You'll also need an XF86Config-4 file compatible with the 560z. I know a lot about getting DSL running on this machine, so ask any questions you need.
