So I have this old laptop Toshiba Portege 3440CT that freezes when I'm trying to use DSL from Usb in it. There is no hard drive in this computer. I just want to get it as light internet terminal for irc and surfing.

Last line that shows in startup is:

Processor 0 is Pentium III (Coppermine) 500 MHz, 256 KB cache

And it just freezes? Is there anything I can do to get this DSL work in my computer or is there some other little linux that can run in my computer

Try booting with this command:

failsafe

or maybe

dsl acpi=off

and see if it helps.

If the last thing you see is the processor check then try booting with the 'nopcmcia' parm.  Most Toshiba's I've seen need this parm.

So on the boot prompt you would type: dsl nopcmica

good luck

The DSL Forum Search default is 'OR'
If you search for "cat dog" you will get all "cat" posts and all "dog" posts.
If you search for "cat AND dog" you will only find results that contain BOTH "cat" and "dog"
Add '*' for wildcards, " cat* and dog* "

That nopcmcia parameter worked to me. Thank you for your advice.
