Is apt-get upgrade something that's NOT supposed to work with a (non-frugal) HD installation of DSL? I tried it last night after editing apt's config file to change "oldstable" to "stable", but it crashed while trying to upgrade bash, and now apt-get upgrade fails immediately after launch and exits with the same error.

Define what you mean by "config file." Did you edit /etc/apt/sources.list or something else (like apt.conf)? You should only edit sources.list if you want to change from stable to unstable or testing repositories.

Sorry, my mistake.

The file I edited to change oldstable to stable was /etc/apt/sources.list.

Actually, the failed apt-get upgrade seems to have had side effects worse than I thought. I tried to boot it up now to tell you the exact error, and got:

Since it looks like I'm going to have to reinstall anyway (no big deal, since I haven't done much with it yet), what should I be doing after I finish the non-frugal install and restart to ensure that installing apt and using it from that point forward will be as painless as possible?

apt-get update

and not

apt-get upgrade

upgrade is not supported as too many base Debian structure was stripped for our minimal size.

However, many Debian apps can be loaded.

DSL is Woody based.

The very latest dsl-dpkg.(dsl|unc) now points to the Debian archive for Woody.

Ah, ok.

How does the "UNC" version get installed? I tried clicking on MyDSL->UNC->dsl-dpkg from "MyDSL", but it didn't seem to do anything besides download and save the file to /tmp. The only version I've been able to get to work is the one from MyDSL->System->dsl-dpkg.
