I tried to boot on my Dell Latitude D600 with fb1280x1024 and got

It blew up trying to Autoconfigure devices:

Oops: 0000
CVP: 0
EIP: 0010:[<f8d31986>] Not tainted
EFLAGS: 00010207
...

This includes stuff like a stack trace and call trace.
Then there's a kernal panic.

What's up with this? Is there a work around? Is this the right place to report bugs?

cheers.

With "failsafe" I get a warning that there is no root file system. When I type a command I get another kernal panic.

OK. I may have been using the wrong iso.
So I tried the syslinux.iso and that seems to get stuck
on dealing with scsi, even when I specify noscsi at the boot options.

Try booting with

expert

and say no to SCSI

Hmm.. that's the same kernel error I see..

Try using this at the bootprompt

" dsl acpi=off noapic "

If this works, you can add te other boot options to it,
like "dma" "toram" etc...

Thanks I'll try your suggestion.
BTW The 1.5 distros (both iso and syslinux) work fine on the Dell Latitude D600, as does Knoppix 4.0.2 (both DVD and LITE).

Thanks for the help guys.

I'm able to boot 2.1 RC3 using acip=off noapic, but if I try to specify framebuffer or a different resolution, kernel panic ensues.

I think I'll stick with 1.5 for now.
