For the last several days I've downloaded and played around with DSL. Prior to using dsl, I didn't think it would really fit any of my needs.  I'm currenty a Gentoo linux user and quite happy with running Gentoo on my Desktop.  Anyhow, after reading about DSL and playing with it, I'm very impressed.  I have an old dell notebook that I thought I'd give it a try.  It took me quite awhile to get it loaded and working correctly.  The more I learned about DSL, the more I liked it.

Currently, I see the main drawback to DSL is the lack of documentation.  If anyone knows Gentoo, the documentation and forums are incredible.  The have massive amounts of howto's and installation instructions are a real benefit to a new user.  I spent alot of time on the DSL forums and wiki looking for information to help me understand the product and help in the installation.  Unfortunately, it isn't quite like Gentoo's.   I found myself scratching my head several times not really understanding the underlying architecture and benefits of DSL.  But nevertheless, I think in time the documentation will catch up and make this even a better and more easilly understood linux distro.  Maybe in the near future, I'll write up some howto's that may help a new user install and work with DSL.

Landrand-

I'm glad you concluded your message with the impression that you'd like to help remedy the situation.  Gentoo's great documentation is due to the fact that people like you and me (not the Gentoo developers) created it.  Same dynamic would be true for DSL.

The developers are spending all thier time developing DSL...this is why there is usually a beta or new issue about every 3 months...

Perhaps if we all teamed up we could all contribute to the DSL documentation
