I am a longtime Windows user who just dumped XP for good a few weeks ago. I have to say that DSL is extremely friendly to Linux newbs (like me), and that I will never go back. It has taken some getting used to, but I love being able to hack menus and stuff like that. I am also in love with Fluxbox - it is very functional, and MUCH prettier than all the Luna clones out there. I also like the USB boot thingy - very easy to rescue your system if you mess something up.

Before this, I had never used Linux in my life - but from now on, it'll be installed on every computer I ever have. Thanks!

It's funny that you would say it's extremely friendly....I don't know if I would have had that opinion if i'd started with DSL.  Instead I started with Mandrake and Suse, which both have a pile of application choices, lots of documentation, and gui system config tools that cover almost everything.

That said, it's nice to hear from people who can appreciate DSL for what it has above other systems....a VERY small footprint and no fear of death.  You can hack away without worying about what the results will be =o)

Oh, I've had to re-install it several times after having screwed something up :p
I was originally trying to dual boot with XP, but both were hogging the MBR after install, and so I finally gave up. Fluxbox is a radical change for me, but fortunately the learning curve is quite steep. I've already managed to screw up X (I was trying to install the NVidia thingy) but was able to get it going again shortly. Midnight Commander is a good thing when you can't start your GUI, eh?

I like the DSL extension panel, too - keeps you from accumulating too much unnecesssary stuff (as was my issue with winblows)

I also couldn't believe how quick and easy it was to install DSL. It takes...what, 15 minutes - compared to XP's 1 1/2 hr?
