Hi all, just a curious little query: why is the DSL wiki is not accepting new members? It's not that it's particularly informative at present, but I am certain it could be resurrected and extended if the powers that are in charge could let us mere DSL-users in, and help to enrich it. I back you 100%.It'd be nice, for example, if core mantainers, when a noobie asks the obvious, would reply with a link to the wiki, rather than the usual; "Couldn't you search it before, eh?". No flame intended... Posted by cbagger01 on Mar. 01 2006,06:47
I think it has something to do with a bunch of evil spammers getting accounts and bombarding the site. Also, the original wiki maintainer seems to be on holiday. Posted by Fordie on Mar. 01 2006,10:45
Hi Guys and Gals, this unfortunately doesn't reflect very well on the management. May I propose to elect a deputy wiki maintainer to keep things moving and keep the evil spammers at bay? As the grandparent to this post mentioned, it would give n00bs like me a nice first start into life with dsl, instead of annoying the regulars with newbie questions. Thanks, hopefully the higher powers are listening. Fordie P.S. Oh, btw: Dsl rocks! Posted by cbagger01 on Mar. 01 2006,17:12
If this means that you are volunteering to do the job, I am confident that they will be listening

If you open it up...bots can strip your wiki to nothing in a matter of minutes!I recommend getting a good number of "registered" users (10-20) that can add/modify content..not general open to public...thats just inviting baddies in Brian AwPhuch Posted by roberts on Mar. 02 2006,00:11
While the Wiki has never been my bailiwick, I have been told that the Wiki had become a spam magnet. Cannot currently registered users gain access?

It seems to my recolection that Saidin locked it down.... where ever he went....

So better take it off completely, it may raise false expectations

I can log in & change things so maybe users registered before the lockdown are still able to change things.

Perhaps on the front page of the Wiki they should put a message to PM a moderator or someone here in the forums for access to be able to modify the wikiThus people who can/will update the wiki will have access...those that dont need to modify it really dont need to anyway right Plus it takes a wee bit of reading/understanding to get the wiki sytax down..but I know if you can hand code an html page you can write one hell of a wiki page!
