I installed DSL onto a young friend's Panasonic CF-27 Toughbook. This only has very limited resources but DSL came up OK after lots of trial and error. When demonstrating it to her, I made the mistake of selecting thr alternative desktop and arrived at a pale green on white horror from which I could not escape. I had to reinstall from the CD. Now I want to save the settings to avoid a repeat. The howto refers to a .filetool.lst but doesn't say where it lives. Anyone know?

.filetool.lst resides in /home/dsl. It's a hidden file, which means if you want to access it from emelfm you will need to click emelfm's "H" button or press ctrl+h.You shouldn't need to edit the file (or reinstall) for that particular issue, though. The desktop is chosen according to what is listed in /home/dsl/.desktop (the "wm" line). From either fluxbox or jwm, you should be able to switch over from one to the other easily through the "restart" part of the menu. Each time you do this, the .desktop file will be rewritten with the appropriate window manager. If you are backing up your files, or using a debian-style DSL installation, you will boot into the last window manager that was chosen before you rebooted. Posted by humpty on Mar. 11 2006,22:49
you might want to consider a frugal install. if your pc hangs up,just reboot. settings are not saved unless you do proper shutdown. |
