What do you like better when used in DSL, and why?

I do not know what flwriter is but I like ted because it has a spell checker and I can save as various formats to directory of choice. I also like that I can add or insert various pic formats and when I printed the page looked good..was centered on the page or the margins were good..I would prefer buttons..if siags pathetic writer does the same, why not just include it..or is it to large..in which case I like ted..I tried abiword but it does not have multi pic formats and the margins are off when I print..both lack a good selection of fonts to choose from..and print preview can be handy..what is fl writer? ted is a very good choice based on what I have seen so far..how can I install flwriter and pathetic writer to try?

Hard to say which is better. Ted may be easy for those coming from the Unix world but I find it difficult to use. I had expected FLWriter as it is listed as the wordprocessing app. in the app. listing on your webpage. Nor is it available as a MyDSL extension apparently.

Ted is a more feature full word processor, but it has known bugs in DSL. I emailed the author of Ted yesterday, and it turns out that the crashing that the crashes we've been experiencing are a compatibility issue with Fluxbox. So, if you want to be safe switch to JWM before you do any word processing. Mark de Does (the author) said he is addressing the incompatibility, so, hopefully we have the fix soon. Ted's file-open interface is enough for me to avoid it at all costs.I don't have any fond memories for FlWriter either. Posted by cbagger01 on April 17 2006,03:33
I'd vote for Pathetic Writer if we could figure out why it crashed for some users and solved the problem.TED is more useful, but it takes up a lot of space. Not as much as Abiword, for example, but it still uses a lot of space compared to the other "lightweight" candidates. FLWriter is better in the size area, but TED's .RTF support is hard to beat. ted has simply more features. I know it's uglier, since it lacks icons, but it's easy to use and has averything you need to write a report, an article, a poem. |
