Any noobs (newbie's) to DSL and/or fluxbox should check out Fordie's new write-up: "Introduction to the DSL Desktop."

It's a quick read and even has pictures!

You can find it from the Main Page of the < DSL Wiki > or you can go straight < there. >

Thanks Fordie. Nice write-up!

Fordie... nice work, good use of grapics and hyperlinks.  I think this will be a real help to new users.  Did you use anything special to do the screen captures? What resolution worked out best?

A good companion piece would be the menu that appears when you right-click.  Each item and a short explanation of what it does.... I know it's easy for me to say but it will be a lot of work to do.   Someone care to step up to the plate and take a whack at it?

Thanks again.

Very nicely done.

The only thing I might suggest is re-writing the introduction to remove specific references to the Microsoft Windows operating system. It may be strictly my pet peeve, but I've always preferred more generic references to "common proprietary operating systems" in my F/OSS documentation.

It likely stems from my lack of love for the closed-source alternatives, and my specific desire to not provide them with additional mindshare and advertising on what amounts to "my home turf"

I like that DSL seems to treat Microsoft Windows users as welcomed refugees within the community, but I think documentation is a place where we should definitely keep our agendas unmuddied. Ultimately, DSL exists (like Debian and all of its spawn/progeny) to provide a great operating system, and most definitely not just a great operating system for people who hate Microsoft's offerings.

Just a thought
